I'm getting a right total knee arthroplasty on Tuesday, September 27. I am a retired surgical nurse who was told probably 10+ years ago to find a desk job and didn't. Now the years of being on my feet have taken it's toll, and it's time to pay the piper. I'm 59 years old, need both knees done, but the right knee is markedly worse than the left. I trust my surgeon completely, as I have worked with him for a few decades. Unfortunately, I am retired on disability, and since I have left the hospital they have changed the staff almost completely so I won't know hardly anyone there. That is scary to me. My last surgery, a very complex neurosurgery on my back and spinal cord, I picked everyone who would take care of me including in the operating room. Guess I'm a bit of a control freak, huh? That is actually one of the things that scares me the most. Not being able to get up and be in control. Hopefully, that will inspire me to do my physical therapy even better so I can get back up and moving. I have to get well quick. I have a 15-year-old daughter that I have to drive all over for her extracurricular activities . Anyone reading this please say a prayer to God, Buddha, Allah, or whoever you believe in. If you don't believe in a deity, just send me good vibes.

surgery finished at about 4 o'clock today. It went really well according to the surgeon. I had a general anesthetic due to a fusion with lots of metal in my back. I also had a femoral nerve block. it is currently 11 PM and I had a Dilot it at 6:25 PM and just now at 10:45 PM because my nerve block is not covering the pain. It is helping some I can tell and I can feel it wearing off. tomorrow is crunch day. it will be time to get up and do PT and the nerve block will have worn off. Time to put on my big girl panties and pull them up and get started!!!

Good luck today with getting up and moving around a bit. please don't push your knee too hard. allow the process. I am three weeks out yesterday, just started outpatient therapy on Tuesday, and am still using a walker per the PT. My doc has different expectations and has had them all along so I am grateful for all my other providers. my nerve block wore off on the second day and I couldn't do much of anything until the pain was managed and under control, ever a struggle due to the current state of opioid abuse and the ramifications of this for docs and pharmacies.

I’m 68 years old and had arthroscopic surgery in April 2016. my knee was ok for about 8 months and then started bothering me again. I put off going to the doctor until May and he said that he couldn’t do anything else for me it was bone on bone & time for a TKR. it took a while to get an appointment and I had total knee replacement surgery on my right knee on October 25th and came home on the 27th. it’s a slow process, very painful at times. PT started yesterday and they will be coming 3x a week & occupational therapy will be coming 3x a week. Trying to bend my knee is the hardest I think but I’m not giving up.
I understand where your coming from but don’t give up!
